For our heart, brain and eyes to function properly, they need, among other things, sufficient omega-3 fatty acids. These belong to the group of polyunsaturated fatty acids and are essential, which means that they must be taken in with food or supplemented.

One of the most important sources of omega-3s is fatty fish. However, for those who avoid fish, whether they simply dislike the taste or as part of a vegan diet, our O'MEGA VEGAN is the perfect solution.

O'MEGA VEGAN contains high levels of essential omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA (eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid). DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and vision. EPA and DHA contribute to the maintenance of normal heart function. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of EPA and DHA.*

Instead of extracting EPA and DHA from fish or shellfish, we use only high-quality algae oil (PureAlgaeOmega3™) in O'MEGA VEGAN. Good to know: Fish feed on algae and get the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA from them as well. Even though fish is part of a human-tailored diet and production from algae is a bit more complex, in this case it doesn't need the detour. By going directly to the source of omega-3 fatty acids, we can also support, among others, those who have chosen a vegan lifestyle.

What are Omega-3 fatty acids?

Omega-3 fatty acids, along with omega-6 fatty acids, belong to the group of polyunsaturated fatty acids and are essential. This means that they must be taken in through the diet and cannot be formed by the body itself. The most important omega-3 fatty acids include α-linolenic acid (ALA), from which docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) are formed. Because in the Western diet there is often a mismatch between omega-3 and omega-6, i.e. we consume too much omega-6, it is recommended to supplement EPA and DHA, which play a major role in many important body functions.

Why does the right ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 matter?

Our modern diet is often rich in omega-6 and rather poor in omega-3 fatty acids. This imbalance can be noticeable in terms of inflammatory processes. This is because inflammation is caused, among other things, by omega-6 fatty acids (arachidonic acids). This process is in turn inhibited by messenger substances from the omega-3 fatty acids (eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid). However, this only works if omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids are in a good ratio.

What are the functions of omega-3 fatty acids?

DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and vision. EPA and DHA contribute to normal heart function. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of EPA and DHA. Replacing saturated fatty acids with mono- or poly-saturated fatty acids in the diet also supports the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels.*
