Parietichytrium sp. is a single-celled, marine microorganism belonging to the class Thraustochytrida (order Labyrinthulomycota). These organisms are classified neither as true fungi nor as algae, but rather as heterotrophic stramenopiles — a group of microorganisms that absorb and metabolize organic matter from their surrounding environment. Species of Parietichytrium were first identified in marine habitats such as ocean sediments and decomposing marine plant material.
