Beifuß (Artemisia vulgaris) ist ein altes und vielseitiges Heilkraut aus der Familie der Korbblütler.
Die aromatische Pflanze wird traditionell sowohl in der Volksheilkunde als auch in der Küche eingesetzt. In der Naturmedizin wird Beifuß wegen seiner verdauungsfördernden, krampflösenden und durchblutungsanregenden Eigenschaften geschätzt – besonders bei Magen-Darm-Beschwerden, Menstruationsschmerzen und zur Unterstützung der Leber- und Gallenfunktion.
Ein weiteres klassisches Einsatzgebiet ist die Frauenheilkunde: Beifuß kann regulierend auf den Zyklus wirken und wird oft bei unregelmäßiger oder schmerzhafter Menstruation verwendet. In der Traditionellen Chinesischen Medizin (TCM) wird Beifuß zur sogenannten Moxibustion genutzt. Dabei wird getrockneter Beifuß über Akupunkturpunkten abgebrannt, um die Lebensenergie zu stimulieren.
Kulinarisch wird Beifuß häufig als Gewürz für fettreiche Speisen verwendet, da er die Verdauung schwerer Kost erleichtert. Seine Wirkung beruht vor allem auf den enthaltenen Bitterstoffen, ätherischen Ölen (z. B. Thujon) und Gerbstoffen.
