Chondroitinsulfat ist ein körpereigener Bestandteil des Knorpelgewebes und gehört zur Gruppe der Glykosaminoglykane.
Chondroitinsulfat spielt eine wichtige Rolle für den Erhalt von Elastizität, Gleitfähigkeit und Belastbarkeit der Gelenke. Durch seine Fähigkeit, Wasser im Gewebe zu binden, trägt Chondroitinsulfat wesentlich zur Stabilität und Dämpfung des Knorpels bei.
Mit zunehmendem Alter oder bei Gelenkerkrankungen wie Arthrose nimmt die körpereigene Produktion ab, wodurch der Knorpel an Substanz verliert. Eine zusätzliche Zufuhr kann den Knorpelstoffwechsel unterstützen, den Abbau verlangsamen und die Gelenkfunktion verbessern. Studien deuten darauf hin, dass Chondroitinsulfat langfristig Schmerzen lindern und die Beweglichkeit fördern kann, insbesondere in Kombination mit Glucosamin.
