Kleptomanie ist eine psychische Störung der Impulskontrolle, bei der Betroffene wiederholt und unkontrolliert Dinge stehlen, ohne dass ein materielles Motiv oder eine bewusste Bereicherungsabsicht besteht.
Der Diebstahl wird als Dranghandlung erlebt, bei der vor der Tat ein starker innerer Druck und danach eine kurzzeitige Erleichterung oder Befriedigung auftritt. Oft handelt es sich um wertlose Gegenstände, die später weggeworfen oder verschenkt werden.
Die genaue Ursache der Kleptomanie ist noch nicht vollständig geklärt. Vermutet wird ein Zusammenspiel psychischer, neurobiologischer und sozialer Faktoren. Auffällig sind Dysregulationen im Belohnungssystem des Gehirns sowie Störungen im Serotonin- und Dopaminstoffwechsel, ähnlich wie bei anderen Zwangs- und Suchterkrankungen. Häufig tritt Kleptomanie begleitend zu Depressionen, Angststörungen oder Persönlichkeitsstörungen auf. Frauen sind laut Studien häufiger betroffen als Männer.
Die Behandlung erfolgt meist durch eine Kombination aus Psychotherapie (v. a. kognitive Verhaltenstherapie) und medikamentöser Unterstützung, um Impulskontrolle und emotionales Gleichgewicht zu verbessern. Auch Achtsamkeitstraining, Stressbewältigung und soziale Unterstützung spielen eine wichtige Rolle in der Therapie. Ziel ist es, den inneren Spannungsdruck vor der Tat zu reduzieren und alternative Bewältigungsstrategien zu entwickeln, um Rückfälle zu vermeiden.
