Die Lutealphase ist die zweite Hälfte des weiblichen Menstruationszyklus und beginnt direkt nach dem Eisprung.
In der Lutealphase bildet sich aus dem zurückgebliebenen Follikel der sogenannte Gelbkörper (Corpus luteum), der das Hormon Progesteron produziert. Dieses bereitet die Gebärmutterschleimhaut auf eine mögliche Einnistung vor und sorgt für ein stabiles Zyklusende.
Typischerweise dauert die Lutealphase zwischen 12 und 16 Tagen. In dieser Zeit kann es zu zyklusbedingten Beschwerden wie Spannung in der Brust, Stimmungsschwankungen oder vermehrtem Appetit kommen – oft zusammengefasst unter dem Begriff prämenstruelles Syndrom (PMS). Ein zu früher Abfall des Progesteronspiegels kann zu einer verkürzten Lutealphase führen, was wiederum mit einer eingeschränkten Fruchtbarkeit in Verbindung stehen kann.
Die Hormonbalance in der Lutealphase ist entscheidend für einen gesunden Zyklus. Kommt es nicht zur Befruchtung, sinken Progesteron und Östrogen ab, was die Menstruation auslöst. Bei Kinderwunsch oder Zyklusbeschwerden kann die Beobachtung der Lutealphase – etwa durch Basaltemperaturmessung oder Progesterontests – wichtige Hinweise liefern.
Gesundheitliche Aspekte der Lutealphase
- Gekennzeichnet durch hohen Progesteronspiegel nach dem Eisprung
- Dauer: meist 12–16 Tage, bei <10 Tagen spricht man von Lutealinsuffizienz
- Symptome: PMS, Müdigkeit, Brustspannen, Hitzewallungen
- Entscheidend für die Einnistung der Eizelle bei Kinderwunsch
- Diagnostik über Zyklusanalyse, Hormonspiegel und Basaltemperatur
