Pektine sind natürliche, lösliche Ballaststoffe, die hauptsächlich in der Zellwand von Früchten wie Äpfeln, Zitrusfrüchten oder Beeren vorkommen.
Pektine sind bekannt für ihre gelbildenden Eigenschaften, weshalb sie oft in der Lebensmittelherstellung als Verdickungs- oder Geliermittel verwendet werden. Doch auch aus gesundheitlicher Sicht sind sie interessant.
Im Verdauungstrakt entfalten Pektine eine präbiotische Wirkung: Sie fördern das Wachstum nützlicher Darmbakterien, verbessern die Stuhlkonsistenz und tragen zur Verlangsamung der Magenentleerung bei. Dadurch wird der Blutzuckerspiegel stabilisiert und das Sättigungsgefühl verlängert. Zudem binden sie Gallensäuren und unterstützen so die natürliche Senkung des Cholesterinspiegels.
In Kombination mit bioaktiven Substanzen wie Lactoferrin könnten Pektine zusätzlich das Mikrobiom stabilisieren, die Darmbarriere stärken und bei entzündlichen Darmerkrankungen oder Reizdarmsyndrom eine sinnvolle Ergänzung darstellen. Besonders Apfelpektin zeigt in Studien vielversprechende Effekte auf die Darmgesundheit und Immunfunktion.
