Spirulina ist eine blaugrüne Mikroalge, die zu den ältesten Lebewesen der Erde zählt und für ihre außergewöhnliche Nährstoffdichte geschätzt wird.
Spirulina enthält bis zu 70 % hochwertiges Eiweiß, zahlreiche Vitamine (u. a. B1, B2, B12), Mineralstoffe, Chlorophyll, Beta-Carotin und das antioxidativ wirksame Phycocyanin. Aufgrund dieser Zusammensetzung gilt Spirulina als natürliches Superfood.
Spirulina wirkt stark antioxidativ, entzündungshemmend und kann das Immunsystem stärken. Studien belegen zudem einen positiven Einfluss auf den Blutzucker, die Lipidwerte und die körperliche Leistungsfähigkeit. Auch bei chronischer Müdigkeit, Allergien und Umweltbelastung wird Spirulina unterstützend eingesetzt. Anders als Chlorella bindet Spirulina nur schwach Schwermetalle, wirkt dafür aber regulierend auf den Säure-Basen-Haushalt.
Die Alge wird meist als Pulver, Pressling oder Kapsel eingenommen. Besonders bewährt hat sich die Kombination mit Chlorella bei Detox-Protokollen. Die empfohlene Tagesdosis liegt zwischen 2–5 g, bei sportlicher Belastung auch mehr. Spirulina ist gut verträglich, kann aber bei empfindlichen Menschen anfänglich Verdauungsreaktionen hervorrufen.
