Ysop (Hyssopus officinalis) ist ein traditionelles Heilkraut aus dem Mittelmeerraum, das in der Naturheilkunde insbesondere für die Linderung von Atemwegserkrankungen geschätzt wird.
Ysop enthält ätherische Öle, Gerbstoffe und Flavonoide, die eine antiseptische, schleimlösende und entzündungshemmende Wirkung entfalten. Daher wird Ysop häufig bei Husten, Bronchitis und Heiserkeit angewendet. Auch in der Verdauungsheilkunde findet Ysop Verwendung: Die enthaltenen Bitterstoffe regen die Magensaftproduktion an und können bei Blähungen und Appetitlosigkeit helfen.
In der Küche dient Ysop wegen seines würzigen, leicht bitteren Aromas als Zutat für Suppen, Fleischgerichte und Kräuterliköre. Aufgrund seiner intensiven Wirkung sollte er jedoch sparsam dosiert werden. In der modernen Phytotherapie wird die Pflanze zudem bei nervösen Beschwerden wie innerer Unruhe und Konzentrationsschwäche eingesetzt.
