Iron deficiency is one of the most common micronutrient deficiencies worldwide. Iron deficiency is usually caused by dietary undersupply - that is, not enough of the trace element is absorbed through the diet. In addition to dietary undersupply, intestinal diseases or other inflammatory conditions can make it difficult to absorb iron or disrupt its distribution in the body. In addition, increased stress, sport or growth phases (children and adolescents) can increase the requirement. Women who lose a lot of blood during menstruation can also suffer from an iron deficiency. However, the exact cause is best diagnosed by a doctor.

Iron is found primarily in red meat such as beef, veal and game, as well as offal. Eggs also provide a certain amount of iron (especially the yolk). Iron is also found in plant foods. In (species-appropriate) foods - green vegetables, various nuts and seeds, and various herbs and beet.

Since iron is very closely linked to energy metabolism in the mitochondria and the iron contained in red blood cells binds oxygen and distributes it throughout the body, an iron deficiency has a significant impact on performance. The following symptoms may indicate an iron deficiency: pale skin and/or pale mucous membranes, rapid fatigue, lack of concentration, susceptibility to infections, white grooves on the fingernails or brittle nails, increased hair loss, torn corners of the mouth, headaches or dizziness.

The uses for lactoferrin are wide and vary in dosage, route of absorption, and combination with other ingredients. At NATURAL IRON, we focus on iron metabolism: the plant source of iron partially covers the daily requirement, vitamin C can support the absorption of iron in the intestine, and lactoferrin, as transferrin, can support the transport of iron in the body. NATURAL IRON therefore does not replace L’FERRIN but refers to its use with regard to iron balance.

Especially in endurance or competitive sports, the high stress on the muscles, intestines and increased sweating lead to increased consumption and loss of iron. In the absence of regeneration, the organism can absorb even less iron due to permanent stress. If certain diets are added, for example a vegetarian or one-sided diet, iron deficiency can quickly occur.
