What is creatine?
Creatine is a compound consisting of the three amino acids glycine, arginine, and methionine, and is produced by the body itself. The body can produce creatine on its own and also obtains it through the diet, primarily from meat and fish. About 95% of the bodys creatine is found in the muscles. There, it is closely linked to cellular energy metabolism.
What does “liposomal” mean?
The term “liposomal” describes a formulation technology in which an active ingredient is embedded in very small lipid structures (fat-like vesicles). These structures consist of phospholipids that arrange themselves into a bilayer membrane and resemble natural cell membranes in their basic structure. The goal of this technology is to embed active ingredients in a protective lipid environment. In so-called liposomal creatine formulations, creatine is incorporated into such a phospholipid structure. This results in microscopically small particles in which the active ingredient is surrounded by a lipid matrix.
How is creatine related to the muscles energy supply?
Creatine is closely linked to the so-called creatine phosphate system. A large portion of creatine is present in the form of phosphocreatine. During short-term, intense exercise, phosphocreatine can provide a phosphate group to convert ADP back into ATP. ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is the cells primary energy carrier. This mechanism explains why creatine is particularly important in the context of power training and short-term, intense physical activity.¹
How do liposomal creatine and conventional creatine monohydrate differ?
The main difference lies in the formulation of the creatine. Creatine monohydrate is the most well-researched form of creatine and the one most commonly used in dietary supplements. It consists of pure creatine combined with a water molecule. PureWay® creatine, on the other hand, is a formulation in which creatine is embedded in a phospholipid structure. These lipid structures consist of fat-like components that are also found in cell membranes. The goal of this technology is to embed the active ingredient in a specific carrier structure.
What are the applications of creatine in sports and daily life?
Sports and Training: Creatine is particularly relevant in the context of explosive strength training and short-duration, high-intensity exercise. With a daily intake of 3 g of creatine, it can support physical performance during explosive strength training as part of short-duration, intense physical activity.¹

What happens when you take creatine without exercising?
Creatine can replenish the bodys own creatine stores regardless of exercise. However, the well-documented effects of creatine primarily relate to its use in conjunction with short-term, intense exertion and regular exercise. Without physical activity, these exercise-related effects are not the primary focus.
Is 3 g of creatine enough for muscle building?
The recommended daily intake to achieve the positive effects of creatine is 3 g. Creatine enhances physical performance during power training as part of short-term, intense physical activity. However, other factors are also important for muscle building, such as progressive training stimuli, adequate energy and protein intake, and recovery.
When should I take creatine?
Creatine can generally be taken at any time of day. More important than the exact time is taking it regularly every day. Many people take creatine immediately after a workout or with a meal to easily incorporate it into their routine.
What are the side effects of creatine?
When taken properly, creatine is generally considered well-tolerated by healthy adults. In isolated cases, particularly in sensitive individuals, or when the daily dose significantly exceeds the recommended 3 g, or when very high single doses are taken, mild gastrointestinal discomfort may occur. These symptoms are usually temporary and can often be avoided by taking creatine with sufficient fluids. In addition, there may be a slight increase in body weight, which is related to increased water retention in the muscles. This effect affects only the muscles and varies in severity from person to person. A daily intake of 3 g of creatine adheres to the recommended usage guidelines.
