health nerds – Der Podcast über artgerechtes Leben
If you're interested in nutrition, you'll stumble across these two terms pretty quickly: blood sugar spikes and insulin resistance.
Simplified: When we eat something, especially something sugary, there is a so-called blood sugar spike in our body. These measurable spikes are – not good, as we read again and again –. If our blood sugar levels are constantly too high, our body can develop insulin resistance, which can lead to type 2 diabetes in the long term.
“However, it is not quite that simple”, says health scientist Matthias Baum from the artgerecht science team. Because: “From an evolutionary perspective, blood sugar spikes and the ability to react less strongly to insulin are perfectly justified.”
How can we keep our blood sugar as balanced as possible? Which food combinations have a positive effect and prevent excessive blood sugar spikes? What role do our brain and immune system play in the interaction between blood sugar and insulin? And how useful and reliable are blood glucose measurements by trackers and apps? HEALTH NERDS. Man, simply explained.
