health nerds – Der Podcast über artgerechtes-leben
Lent is upon us and millions of people are consciously abstaining from certain foods such as sugar or alcohol during these days - often with the aim of cleansing the body or losing weight. However, a new international study shows that fasting does far more than just lose kilos: it can trigger profound changes in several organs.
What does this mean for our health?
What processes take place in our organs during fasting?
How do the proteins in our blood change?
And what new findings are there about the effects of fasting on our brain and energy metabolism?
„Fasting has obvious and scientifically proven not only short-term effects, but also long-term health-promoting potential,
summarizes Matthias Baum from the HEALTH NERDS science team the study results.
The study: Researchers from the Berlin Institute of Health, the Norwegian School of Sports Sciences and Queen Mary University of London investigated the influence of a seven-day water fast on the body. They found that after around three days, the protein composition in the blood changes significantly, signaling adaptations in important organs.
The effects on the brain and energy metabolism are particularly remarkable. More information: https://www.bihealth.org/de/aktuell/neue-studie-zeigt-systematische-veraenderungen-des-koerpers-durch-fasten.
