– Thank you for your questions about our current episode “Leaky Gut Syndrome: “leaky gut” cause of strong immune reactions and inflammation”. Matthias Baum from the HEALTH NERDS science team provides answers here in the consultation hour.
On the main episode: In science, “leaky gut syndrome” describes the effects of a “leaky gut”. The intestinal membrane becomes permeable, harmful substances enter the bloodstream unhindered and the protective function of the intestinal mucosa against pathogens and toxins is severely impaired. If larger molecules such as undigested food components or microbes enter the bloodstream through the intestinal wall, this can trigger strong immune reactions and inflammation. It is estimated that up to 6 million people are affected in Germany alone. However, not all doctors recognize “leaky gut syndrome” as an independent disease, as the scientific evidence is still limited. Some researchers regard it more as a concomitant or symptom of other diseases. “An unbalanced diet, high sugar and fat consumption, chronic stress, infections, the use of antibiotics or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and diseases such as celiac disease or Crohn's disease are among the most common causes.ouml;re among the possible causes of leaky gut” – Matthias Baum from the HEALTH NERDS science team is working intensively on the reasons for a leaky gut. In this episode, he provides an exciting insight and concrete tips on diagnosis, therapy and prevention: “Well researched is the use of the amino acid L-glutamine to repair the intestinal wall and close microcracks.” HEALTH NERDS.
