health nerds – Der Podcast über artgerechtes Leben
We received a lot of questions about the latest podcast episode: Superfoods on the test bench: food as medicine. Here in the HEALTH NERDS consultation hour, our experts from the species-appropriate science team provide answers:
“Can I eat too many superfoods and can the effect then perhaps even be harmful?
“Does it really make a food like peppers, apples or avocado healthier if it is organic?
“Can it be useful to choose superfoods according to personal health problems?
“Are there superfoods or foods in general that I should include in my diet as a vegan?
“Why do superfoods in particular have so many antioxidants, vitamins and fiber?”
Thank you very much for your questions about our latest podcast episode “Superfoods on the Test Bench: Food as Medicine”. Matthias Baum from the artgerecht HEALTH NERDS science team provides answers here in the consultation hour.
On the main episode: Superfoods – contrary to what many people think, this is not a protected term, but an invention of clever marketing strategists. Meaning: anyone can call any food a superfood! What's more, superfoods are not even specifically defined in science. But which foods actually have an above-average positive effect on our health? Specifically: Which of the so-called superfoods provide us with a higher quantity of certain nutrients and have a proven antioxidant effect? “The ingredients in a food can be beneficial to health, but to say that if I eat a lot of them I will become healthier is a step too far for me” – Matthias Baum from the HEALTH NERDS science team takes a detailed look at the best-known superfoods and provides regional alternatives for the superstars among them: “There is little point in transporting goji berries, açai berries or chia seeds halfway around the globe when there are equivalent alternatives in our latitudes”. In addition, there are a number of foods that have been scientifically proven to have an extraordinary effect on our bodies: Manuka honey, olive oil with a high polyphenol content, turmeric, ginger, saffron, high-quality omega-3 fatty acids and the antioxidant astaxanthin. And yet: “A single, isolated superfood makes little sense – it is always the super combination of good foods.” HEALTH NERDS. Man, simply explained. After each regular episode, you can easily send us your questions via Instagram Direct Message as a voice message or via text. On the following Thursday you will receive the answers in the HEALTH NERDS consultation hour.
