health nerds – Der Podcast über artgerechtes-leben
Superfoods – contrary to what many people think, this is not a protected term, but an invention of clever marketing strategists. Meaning: anyone can call any food a superfood!
More than that: superfoods are not even specifically defined in science. But which foods actually have an above-average positive effect on our health?
Specifically: Which of the so-called superfoods provide us with a higher quantity of certain nutrients and have a proven antioxidant effect?
“The ingredients in a food can be beneficial to health, but to say that eating a lot of it will make me healthier is a step too far for me?rdquo; – Matthias Baum from the HEALTH NERDS science team takes a detailed look at the best-known superfoods and provides regional alternatives for the superstars among them: “It makes little sense to transport goji berries, açai berries or chia seeds halfway around the globe when there are equivalent alternatives in our latitudes”.
In addition, there are a number of foods that have been scientifically proven to have an extraordinary effect on our bodies: Manuka honey, olive oil with a high polyphenol content, turmeric, ginger, saffron, high-quality omega-3 fatty acids and the antioxidant astaxanthin. And yet: “A single, isolated superfood makes little sense – it is always the super combination of good foods.” HEALTH NERDS. Man, simply explained.
