Things worth knowing about "ADS"

ADS (attention deficit disorder without hyperactivity) is a subtype of ADHD in which hyperactivity is absent and the symptoms are mainly characterised by inattention, daydreaming and disorganisation

People affected by ADHD - often girls and women - are less likely to stand out due to impulsive or disruptive behaviour, but rather due to difficulties in concentration, forgetfulness, slow workingand low stimulus filtering. Due to its quieter appearance, ADD is often diagnosed late or not at all.

.

As with ADHD, the cause of ADD lies in a neurobiological dysfunction, especially in the dopamine and noradrenaline metabolism. Genetic predisposition plays a central role, as do stressful environmental factors or early childhood developmental influences. Children with ADD often appear dreamy, overwhelmed, withdraw or quickly lose the thread. In adulthood, ADD often manifests itself in procrastination, low stress resistance and difficulties at work or in everyday life.

.

The treatment of ADD usually includes behavioural therapy, coachingand structural measures such as time management and concentration training. In severe cases medications such as methylphenidate or atomoxetine are used. In addition, micronutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids and magnesium, a stimulus-reduced environment as well as mindfulness and exercise help to improve stimulus processing. Individualised, long-term support is crucial in order to improve quality of life and self-esteem.
