Allergopharma is a German pharmaceutical company headquartered in Reinbek near Hamburg, specializing in the development, manufacturing, and distribution of products for allergen immunotherapy (AIT). The company is part of the Dermapharm Group and is one of the most experienced manufacturers of allergen preparations in German-speaking countries and across Europe.

Allergopharma offers a wide range of products for specific immunotherapy targeting a variety of allergens, including:

Mechanism of Action of Allergen Immunotherapy

Specific immunotherapy, also known as desensitization or hyposensitization, is the only causal treatment approach for allergies. The patient is given gradually increasing doses of the relevant allergen to train the immune system to tolerate it over time. The key mechanisms include:

Induction of regulatory T-cells that suppress excessive immune responses
Shifting the immune response from an allergy-typical Th2 profile toward a Th1 profile
Reduction of allergen-specific IgE antibodies in the blood
Increase in blocking IgG4 antibodies

This mechanism not only alleviates symptoms but also addresses the underlying cause of the allergy. In many patients, the therapeutic effect persists for years after the completion of treatment.

Application and Treatment Duration

Allergen immunotherapy with Allergopharma products is always prescribed and supervised by a physician – typically an allergist or ENT specialist. Treatment generally spans 3 to 5 years and is divided into two phases:

Initiation phase: Gradual dose escalation up to the maintenance dose
Maintenance phase: Regular administration of the established dose for long-term desensitization

For some products, Allergopharma also offers short-term immunotherapy (RUSH protocols), in which the dose escalation is carried out at an accelerated pace.

Quality and Regulatory Approval

Allergopharma allergen products are approved as therapeutic allergens under the German Therapeutic Allergen Regulation (TAV) and are subject to strict quality standards.
