Things worth knowing about "Azoangin"
Azoangin is a medicine for the local treatment of sore throats and inflammation in the mouth and throat. It has antiseptic and pain-relieving properties.
What is Azoangin?
Azoangin is a topical therapeutic agent used to treat discomfort in the mouth and throat area. Available as lozenges, it acts directly at the site of symptoms. The combination of antiseptic and analgesic active ingredients makes it particularly effective for relieving sore throats, difficulty swallowing, and irritation of the oral mucosa.
Active Ingredients and Mechanism of Action
Azoangin contains the active ingredients amylmetacresol and 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol. These substances belong to the antiseptic group and work as follows:
- Amylmetacresol: Inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi by damaging the cell membranes of microorganisms.
- 2,4-Dichlorobenzyl alcohol: Supports the antiseptic effect and contributes to eliminating pathogens in the throat area.
The combination of both substances provides broad-spectrum antiseptic activity against a wide range of bacteria and viruses that commonly cause sore throats.
Indications
Azoangin is used for the following conditions:
- Sore throat and difficulty swallowing
- Inflammation of the oral and pharyngeal mucosa (pharyngitis, tonsillitis)
- Irritation associated with mild upper respiratory tract infections
- Supportive treatment of oral mucositis (stomatitis)
Dosage and Application
Azoangin lozenges are typically used every 2 to 3 hours, with a maximum of 8 lozenges per day. The lozenge should be dissolved slowly in the mouth without chewing or swallowing it. The exact dosage should always be taken from the package leaflet or confirmed with a doctor or pharmacist.
Note for children: Use in children under 6 years of age is not recommended. In children aged 6 to 12 years, use should be supervised by an adult.
Side Effects
Azoangin is generally well tolerated. Possible side effects may include:
- Temporary tingling or burning sensation in the mouth
- Rarely: hypersensitivity reactions such as rash or swelling
- Very rarely: stomach discomfort if larger amounts are accidentally swallowed
If signs of an allergic reaction occur, use should be discontinued immediately and medical advice sought.
Contraindications and Interactions
Azoangin should not be used in cases of:
- Known hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredients
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding (only after medical consultation)
No clinically relevant interactions with other medicines are currently known. Nevertheless, a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted if other medicines are being taken at the same time.
When to See a Doctor
If symptoms do not improve after 3 to 5 days, worsen, or are accompanied by fever, difficulty breathing, or severe difficulty swallowing, medical examination is urgently required. Azoangin does not replace antibiotic therapy for severe bacterial infections.
