Colostrum, also known as colostrum, is the first milk produced by mammals in the first few days after birth.
Colostrum is particularly rich in nutrients, antibodies and bioactive compounds that are essential for the newborn animal to strengthen the immune system and promote healthy development. The most important component of colostrum is lactoferrin, a multifunctional glycoprotein that plays a key role in immune defence. Lactoferrin has strong antimicrobial properties that inhibit the growth of bacteria, viruses and fungi and thus support protection against infections.
In addition to lactoferrin, colostrum contains a high concentration of immunoglobulins, especially IgG, which provide the newborn with important protection against infections by activating and supporting the immune system. Colostrum is also rich in growth factors that promote the growth and repair of tissues and contributes to the development of the newborn's digestive system. In addition, it contains a variety of vitamins, minerals, proteins and enzymes that contribute to overall health and well-being.
Because of its health benefits, colostrum is not only used for newborns, but also as a dietary supplement for adults. It often comes in capsule, powder or liquid form and can potentially boost the immune system, improve athletic performance and aid recovery after exercise. In addition, there is evidence that colostrum has anti-inflammatory properties that may be helpful in the treatment of chronic diseases and gastrointestinal complaints.
The use of colostrum as a dietary supplement has increased in recent years, especially among athletes and health-conscious people who want to benefit from its potential benefits. However, a doctor should be consulted before taking colostrum products, especially for people with allergies or intolerances to dairy products. It is also important to pay attention to the quality and origin of the colostrum to ensure that it comes from healthy animals and has been processed under hygienic conditions.
