Eicosatetraenoic acid (abbreviated ETA) is a long-chain, polyunsaturated fatty acid belonging to the omega-3 family. It contains 20 carbon atoms and four double bonds, giving it the scientific designation 20:4(n-3), or more specifically all-cis-5,8,11,14-eicosatetraenoic acid depending on the isomer. ETA is found naturally in relatively few food sources, with the New Zealand green-lipped mussel (Perna canaliculus) being the most well-known dietary source. It has attracted scientific interest primarily due to its potent anti-inflammatory mechanisms.
