Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is one of the oldest known medicinal plants, traditionally used for its digestive, antispasmodic and expectorant properties. These effects are mainly due to its essential oils, especially anethole and fenchone.
Fennel seeds or teas are commonly used for bloating, abdominal cramps, gas, loss of appetite and also for cough and congestion. Fennel can also help support milk production during breastfeeding and is mildly antibacterial and anti-inflammatory.
