Der Glukosewert gibt die Konzentration von Zucker im Blut an und ist ein zentraler Indikator für den Kohlenhydratstoffwechsel.
Glukose wird aus der Nahrung gewonnen und dient als wichtigste Energiequelle für Zellen und Organe, insbesondere für Gehirn und Muskeln. Die Regulation erfolgt über die Hormone Insulin und Glukagon.
Die Normalwerte liegen nüchtern zwischen 70–99 mg/dl (3,9–5,5 mmol/l). Werte zwischen 100–125 mg/dl gelten als gestörte Nüchternglukose und können auf eine Prädiabetes hinweisen. Werte ab 126 mg/dl deuten auf einen möglichen Diabetes mellitus hin. Auch postprandiale Messungen (nach dem Essen) und der Langzeitwert HbA1c sind relevant für die Beurteilung.
Abweichungen vom Normbereich können kurzfristig durch Stress, Infekte, Medikamente oder Bewegung auftreten – langfristig weisen sie oft auf Stoffwechselerkrankungen hin. Ein zu niedriger Wert (Hypoglykämie) kann Schwindel, Zittern und Bewusstlosigkeit verursachen, ein zu hoher Wert (Hyperglykämie) langfristig Gefäße und Organe schädigen.

- Nüchternglukose normal: 70–99 mg/dl; über 126 mg/dl verdächtig auf Diabetes
- Dauerhaft hohe Werte erhöhen das Risiko für Herz-Kreislauf-Erkrankungen
