Grape seed extract is a concentrated plant substance obtained from the seeds of red grapes.
Grape seed extract is particularly rich in oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs), a group of secondary plant substances with a strong antioxidant effect. This substance has attracted a great deal of attention in naturopathy and functional medicine in recent years, as it is said to have numerous health-promoting properties - particularly with regard to cell protection, skin health and vascular function.
The antioxidant capacity of OPC is said to help neutralise free radicals that can be caused by environmental factors such as UV radiation, stress or pollutants.
