Wissenswertes über "Haem iron"
Haem iron is a particularly bioavailable form of iron that is mainly found in animal foods such as meat, fish and poultry.
Haem iron plays a central role in the body, particularly in the formation of haemoglobin, the red blood pigment responsible for transporting oxygen in the blood. As haem iron is much better absorbed by the body than non-haem iron, the plant-based form of iron, it is considered particularly valuable for a healthy iron supply.
Iron from animal products is absorbed directly into the bloodstream and transported quickly to the organs that need it for blood formation and other physiological processes. People with an increased iron requirement, such as pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and vegetarians, are often affected by iron deficiency and can benefit from a sufficient intake of haem iron. Iron supplements are also a good alternative forpeople who have difficulty absorbing enough iron through food. Many iron supplements combine haem iron with other sources of iron, such as lactoferrin, an iron-binding protein, to optimise its absorption and effect in the body.
