Acute-Phase Proteins

The most well-known example is C-reactive protein (CRP), widely used in clinical diagnostics as a marker of inflammation. It binds to damaged cells and pathogens, thereby activating the complement system.
Receptor Proteins on Immune Cells
Immune cells carry specialized receptor proteins on their surface that recognize antigens or signaling molecules. These include T cell receptors (TCR), B cell receptors (BCR), and Toll-like receptors (TLR), which serve as initial recognition units in the innate immune response.

Cytokine levels are used in research and for monitoring inflammatory diseases or treatment responses.
