Isoflavone gehören zur Gruppe der Phytoöstrogene , also pflanzlicher Substanzen mit östrogenähnlicher Wirkung.
Isoflavone kommen besonders in Sojabohnen, Rotklee, Linsen und Kichererbsen vor und sind bekannt für ihren möglichen Einfluss auf den Hormonhaushalt, insbesondere bei Frauen in den Wechseljahren.
Im Körper binden Isoflavone an Östrogenrezeptoren, allerdings mit deutlich schwächerer Wirkung als körpereigenes Östrogen. Diese Bindung kann sowohl stimulierend als auch hemmend wirken, was Isoflavonen eine regulierende Funktion bei Hitzewallungen, Osteoporose oder Stimmungsschwankungen zuschreibt. Zudem werden ihnen antioxidative und entzündungshemmende Eigenschaften zugeschrieben. Aktuelle Studien zeigen, dass Isoflavone auch einen positiven Einfluss auf die Hautalterung, das kardiovaskuläre System sowie den Lipidstoffwechsel haben könnten.
