Die Ketoazidose ist eine akute Stoffwechselentgleisung, bei der sich im Körper große Mengen Ketonkörper ansammeln.
Ketonkörper entstehen, wenn Zellen auf Fettverbrennung umschalten, z. B. bei Insulinmangel, Hungerzuständen oder extremen Low-Carb-Diäten. Besonders gefährlich ist sie bei Diabetes Typ 1, wenn kein Insulin verfügbar ist, dann gerät der Stoffwechsel außer Kontrolle.
Überschüssige Ketone – vor allem Acetessigsäure und β-Hydroxybutyrat – senken den pH-Wert des Blutes, was zu einer metabolischen Azidose führt. Symptome sind Übelkeit, Erbrechen, Bauchschmerzen, tiefe Atmung (Kussmaul-Atmung), Bewusstseinsstörungen und süßlicher Acetongeruch. Ohne Therapie kann die Ketoazidose schnell lebensbedrohlich werden.
Früherkennung ist entscheidend: Bei erhöhtem Blutzucker, fehlender Insulingabe, Infekten oder Fastenzuständen sollte auf Ketone im Urin oder Blut geachtet werden. Eine ausgewogene Ketose, etwa durch kontrollierte Ernährung oder therapeutisches Fasten, unterscheidet sich klar von einer Ketoazidose.
