This space exists between individual cells within a tissue and forms a complex three-dimensional network of proteins, carbohydrates, and fluids. It is essential for maintaining the structural integrity of tissues and plays a role in numerous biological processes.

Composition and Components

The matrix space consists of various macromolecular components that together form a stable yet dynamic scaffold:

Structural proteins: Collagen and elastin provide tensile strength and elasticity to tissues.
Adhesion proteins: Fibronectin and laminin connect cells to the matrix.
