MGF (Mechano Growth Factor) is an isoform of Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1). It is produced through alternative splicing of the IGF-1 messenger RNA (mRNA) and is primarily expressed in mechanically loaded muscle, bone, and cardiac tissue. MGF plays a central role in the regeneration and growth of skeletal muscle cells.
When muscle tissue is subjected to mechanical stress through physical exercise, stretching, or micro-injuries, MGF is released locally in the affected tissue.
