OPC, the abbreviation for oligomeric proanthocyanidins, are powerful secondary plant substances from the flavonoid group. They are found in high concentrations in grape seeds, the skin of red grapes, pine bark, blueberries and green tea. OPC is particularly known for its exceptionally strong antioxidant effect and is often referred to as a "free radical scavenger".
As one of the most effective antioxidants, OPC protects cells from free radicals that can be caused by stress, UV radiation, environmental toxins and inflammation. Free radicals promote the ageing process and contribute to the development of diseases such as cardiovascular diseases and cancer. OPC neutralises these harmful molecules and thus helps to protect cells and tissue.
Another benefit of OPC lies in its ability to protect collagen and elastin. These structural proteins ensure the firmness and elasticity of the skin, blood vessels and connective tissue.
