The term pegylation refers to the attachment of polyethylene glycol (PEG) chains to the peptide molecule. This modification significantly extends the half-life of MGF in the bloodstream: while native MGF remains stable for only a few minutes in circulation, PEG-MGF can remain biologically active for several days.

Biological Background and Mechanism of Action

MGF is naturally produced in muscle tissue in response to mechanical stress, such as physical exercise or muscle injury. It plays a critical role in activating satellite cells – the stem-cell-like precursor cells of muscle fibers – thereby supporting muscle repair and growth.
