It belongs to the class of alkenes, which are characterized by the presence of at least one carbon-carbon double bond. Due to its structure, pentene exists in several isomers, including 1-pentene, 2-pentene (cis and trans), and branched variants such as 2-methylbut-1-ene and 2-methylbut-2-ene.

Inhalation of vapors can cause irritation of the respiratory tract, dizziness, headaches, and at high concentrations, loss of consciousness.
