Propolis ist ein harzartiges, biologisch aktives Gemisch, das Honigbienen aus Baumharzen, Wachs und eigenen Enzymen herstellen.
In der Natur dient Propolis dem Schutz des Bienenstocks vor Keimen, Pilzen und äußeren Einflüssen – eine Eigenschaft, die auch für den Menschen therapeutisch genutzt wird. Reich an Flavonoiden, Phenolen und ätherischen Ölen wirkt Propolis antibakteriell, antiviral, entzündungshemmend und wundheilungsfördernd.
Traditionell wird Propolis innerlich zur Stärkung des Immunsystems und äußerlich bei kleineren Hautverletzungen, Aphten, Zahnfleischentzündungen oder Akne angewendet. Zudem wurden positive Effekte bei Wundheilung, Gingivitis und Erkältungen beobachtet. Trotzdem ist Propolis nicht für jeden geeignet: Menschen mit Allergien gegen Bienenprodukte oder Asthma sollten es meiden.
