Flea seed husks come from the plant Plantago ovata (Indian plantain) and are a particularly soluble source of fibre with excellent swelling properties.
Flea seed husks can bind up to 40 times their own weight in water and form a gel-like volume, which has a regulating effect on intestinal activity . Psyllium husks are used for constipation, as well as for diarrhoea and irritable bowel syndrome used.
Thanks to their water-binding effect, psyllium husks improve stool consistency, promote bowel peristalsis bowel peristalsis.intestinal peristalsis and serve as a prebiotic substrate for the intestinal microbiome. They can also be useful for chronic inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis. In addition, they support the blood sugar metabolism, help to reduce cholesterol and promote a lasting feeling of satiety, which also makes them popular in the context of weight management .
It is important to take sufficient fluid intake, as otherwise constipation or bloating may occur. Psyllium husks are well tolerated and are also suitable for children, pregnant women and older people. However, they should be gradually integrated into the diet. In combination with probiotic bacteria, L-glutamine, zinc, curcumin or lactoferrin can have synergistic effects on the intestinal mucosa and the immune system can be achieved.
