Salicylic acid has keratolytic and anti-inflammatory effects. Used in skincare and medicine for acne, warts, and dandruff.
Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) known for its keratolytic and anti-inflammatory properties.
Salicylic acid dissolves dead skin cells, unclogs pores, and reduces skin redness. In medicine, it is widely used in dermatology and cosmetics, particularly for acne, psoriasis, and warts. Being lipophilic, salicylic acid penetrates oily skin areas and sebaceous glands effectively, helping to reduce blackheads and pimples while improving overall skin texture. For warts and calluses, it gradually removes thickened skin layers.
Despite its effectiveness, salicylic acid can cause skin irritation, especially in sensitive skin. Higher concentrations should only be used under medical supervision. Cosmetic regulations in the EU limit maximum concentrations to ensure skin safety.
