Wissenswertes über "Spermine"
Spermine and spermidine are two closely related polyamines that play a crucial role in cell biology. Both are essential for cell growth, DNA stability and regeneration processes, but have different functions and focal points.
Spermidine is the precursor of spermine and is enzymatically converted into spermine. While spermidine is primarily known for its ability to activate autophagy - the natural cleaning and regeneration process of cells - spermine is more focussed on protecting existing cell structures. Autophagy helps to break down and recycle damaged or dysfunctional cellular components, which not only maintains cellular health, but can also slow down ageing processes and reduce the risk of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Spermidine also has promising effects on cardiovascular health, as it lowers blood pressure, reduces inflammation and supports vascular function.
.Spermine, on the other hand, acts primarily as a strong antioxidant that stabilises cell membranes, prevents DNA mutations and reduces oxidative stress. These properties make it particularly valuable for the protection of skin cells, which is why it is increasingly being used in cosmetic products for skin rejuvenation. In addition, sperminehas neuroprotective properties and can reduce inflammation-related damage in nerve cells, which helps to maintain cognitive function. While spermidine is mainly found in foods such as wheat germ, soybeans, mushrooms and fermented products, spermine is found in smaller quantities and is primarily synthesised in the body from spermidine.
Although spermidine and spermine fulfil different tasks, they complement each other in their effect. While spermidine stimulates cell renewal and autophagy, spermine protects existing cell structures and reduces the damage caused by free radicals. Together they contribute to cellular health, longevity and prevention of age-related diseases. A diet rich in spermidine and spermine or targeted nutritional supplements could therefore be a promising approach to slowing down cell ageing, strengthening the immune system and improving general health.
