Things worth knowing about "Streptococci"

Streptococci are a group of bacteria that can be responsible for a variety of infections, from harmless colds to serious illnesses such as pneumonia and even blood poisoning (septicaemia);

streptococcus are among the most common bacterial pathogens that cause infections in the human body. Streptococci are divided into two main groups: Alpha-hemolytic Streptococcus, which are frequently found in normal oral flora, and Beta-haemolytic streptococcus, which are associated with many diseases.

Streptococcus bacteria are usually caused by droplet-infection (e.g. B. transmitted by coughing or sneezing), but can also be spread via direct contact with contaminated surfaces or food. The symptoms of a streptococcal infection depend on the area of the body affected. The most common signs include sore throat (in the case of tonsillitis), fever and chills, skin rashes (for scarlet fever), redness and swelling of the skin (for skin infections) or headaches and nausea

A low iron level weakens the body's ability to fight infections, as iron is necessary for the proper functioning of immune cells. People with iron deficiency are therefore more susceptible to bacterial infections. Lactoferrin, a iron-binding protein, plays an important role in fighting infections. Not only does it have antimicrobial properties, but it also helps to make iron available to the body while at the same time limiting the proliferation of bacteria. Lactoferrin can therefore support the immune system and strengthen the body's defences against bacteria such as streptococci.
