Both forms are clinically and scientifically significant.

Vesicles in Dermatology

In dermatology, vesicles are defined as small, raised skin blisters with a diameter of up to 5 millimetres, filled with clear, serous fluid or occasionally blood. Larger fluid-filled blisters are referred to as bullae.

Causes of Skin Vesicles

Viral infections: Herpes simplex, herpes zoster (shingles), chickenpox (varicella)
Allergic reactions: Contact dermatitis, eczema
Autoimmune conditions: Pemphigus vulgaris, bullous pemphigoid

Symptoms and Appearance

Vesicles appear as small, raised, transparent or slightly cloudy blisters on the skin or mucous membranes. They may be surrounded by redness (erythema) and can cause itching, burning, or pain. After rupturing, they often leave moist erosions that may crust over.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis is primarily made through clinical examination by a physician or dermatologist. Additional diagnostic methods may include:
