Thymosin alpha-1 (also written as Thymosin α-1 or Tα1) is a small peptide consisting of 28 amino acids that is naturally produced by the thymus gland. The thymus is a central organ of the immune system, particularly active during childhood, responsible for the maturation of T-cells. Thymosin alpha-1 plays a critical role in regulating and amplifying the body's immune response.
As a synthetically manufactured peptide, Thymosin alpha-1 (brand name: Zadaxin, generic name: thymalfasin) is approved as a pharmaceutical drug in several countries and is used in modern medicine to support the immune system in a variety of conditions.
