Trichomoniasis ist eine weltweit verbreitete, durch den Parasiten Trichomonas vaginalis verursachte sexuell übertragbare Infektion (STI).
Trichomoniasis betrifft vor allem den Urogenitaltrakt von Frauen, kann aber auch Männer infizieren – häufig ohne erkennbare Beschwerden. Die Übertragung erfolgt fast ausschließlich durch ungeschützten Geschlechtsverkehr.
Bei Frauen treten Symptome wie übelriechender Ausfluss, Juckreiz, Brennen beim Wasserlassen und Zwischenblutungen auf. Männer bleiben oft symptomfrei oder berichten über leichtes Brennen nach dem Wasserlassen. Unbehandelt kann die Infektion bei Frauen das Risiko für Frühgeburten, Unfruchtbarkeit oder andere Geschlechtskrankheiten wie HIV erhöhen.
Die Diagnose erfolgt durch Mikroskopie, Antigen-Tests oder PCR-Nachweis. Die Standardtherapie besteht in der Gabe von Metronidazol oder Tinidazol, meist als Einzeldosis. Wichtig ist die Mitbehandlung von Sexualpartnern und der Verzicht auf Geschlechtsverkehr bis zum Abschluss der Therapie, um eine Reinfektion zu vermeiden.
