Vascular wall regeneration describes the biological processes by which damaged or aged blood vessel walls are repaired, renewed, and restored in their function. The body's ability to heal this damage is fundamental to cardiovascular health and the prevention of serious conditions such as atherosclerosis, heart attack, or stroke.

Structure of the Vascular Wall

The wall of a blood vessel consists of three layers:

  • Tunica intima: The innermost layer, lined with endothelial cells that are in direct contact with the blood and play a key role in regeneration.
  • Tunica media: The middle muscular layer, composed of smooth muscle cells and elastic fibers, regulating vascular tone.
  • Tunica adventitia: The outer connective tissue layer that stabilizes the vessel and connects it to surrounding tissue.
