Dihydromyricetin ist ein natürliches Flavonoid, das vor allem aus der japanischen Rosine (Hovenia dulcis) gewonnen wird.
In der traditionellen chinesischen Medizin wird Dihydromyricetin seit Jahrhunderten zur Unterstützung der Leberfunktion und bei Alkoholkonsum eingesetzt. DHM gilt heute als potenter Antioxidans mit zellschützender Wirkung.
Besonders bekannt ist Dihydromyricetin für seine mögliche Rolle beim Abbau von Alkohol im Körper. Studien deuten darauf hin, dass DHM bestimmte Leberenzyme aktivieren kann, wodurch der Abbau von Acetaldehyd – einem toxischen Zwischenprodukt des Alkoholstoffwechsels – beschleunigt wird. Dadurch könnten Kopfschmerzen, Übelkeit und andere Hangover-Symptome abgeschwächt werden.
Darüber hinaus zeigen erste Forschungsergebnisse Hinweise auf neuroprotektive Effekte, etwa im Zusammenhang mit Alkoholsucht, Gedächtnisleistung oder Schlafregulation. Auch bei oxidativem Stress und Entzündungen wird das Flavonoid als interessante Substanz diskutiert. Allerdings fehlen bislang umfassende klinische Studien am Menschen.
