Things worth knowing about "Hops Flowers"
Hops flowers have calming, sleep-inducing and hormone-balancing effects. Learn how they help with insomnia, nervous tension and menopausal symptoms.
Hops flowers (Humulus lupulus) come from the female flowering cones of the hop plant and are well known not only in brewing, but also in herbal medicine for their mild sedative and hormone-regulating effects. The dried cones contain bitter acids (humulone, lupulone), essential oils and phytoestrogens (notably 8-prenylnaringenin).
Traditionally, hops are used to treat sleep disturbances, inner restlessness, mild anxiety, and nervous gastrointestinal issues. They are often combined with valerian or lemon balm for enhanced effectiveness. Due to their mild estrogen-like activity, hops are also used to ease menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and irritability.
