Wissenswertes über "SNRIs"
Serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) are a class of modern antidepressants that block the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain.
This increases neurotransmitter levels in the synaptic cleft, enhances signal transmission, and contributes to mood improvement. Common SNRIs include venlafaxine, duloxetine, and desvenlafaxine.
SNRIs are prescribed not only for depression, anxiety disorders, and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), but also for chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia and neuropathic pain. This is because norepinephrine plays an important role in pain modulation. While effective, SNRIs have their own distinct side effect profile.
Common side effects include nausea, sleep disturbances, headaches, and sweating. In some patients, they may also increase blood pressure, making medical monitoring essential. Supportive natural approaches such as regular exercise, mindfulness practices, a balanced diet, and herbal remedies (e.g., St. John’s wort for mild depression) can further enhance well-being.
