Cholecalciferol, better known as vitamin D3, is a fat-soluble form of vitamin D that is produced in the skin through exposure to sunlight. It plays a central role in calcium and phosphate metabolism and is important for bone health. It also strengthens the immune system and can reduce inflammation. A deficiency of vitamin D3 can lead to weak bones, a weakened immune system and general exhaustion. It can be obtained through food (e.g. fatty fish, eggs) or supplements, especially in the months with little sunshine.
