Osteopathy is based on the assumption that restrictions to the movement of tissues and organs can disrupt the body's self-regulation. The aim of the treatment is to use gentle, precise hand movements to improve the mobility of joints, fascia, organs and nerve structures to improve and thus harmonise body functions holistically.
Osteopaths treat a wide range of functional complaints. These include back pain, headaches, digestive problems, tinnitus, movement restrictions and tension. Treatment is carried out exclusively with the hands, without medication or invasive measures. The person is considered in theirphysical, emotional and energetic dimension
.In Germany, the term ""osteopath"" is not legally protected. Many osteopaths are therefore physiotherapists or alternative practitioners with extensive additional training (at least 1,350 hours). There are also academic study programmes abroad. Recognised therapists are often members of professional associations such as VOD e. V. (Verband der Osteopathen Deutschland).
