The baby is positioned under the arm of the mother, with the nursing pillow providing support underneath. This position is particularly suitable after a cesarean section or for mothers with larger breasts.
Side-Lying Position
The nursing pillow can be used as a support for both mother and baby while lying down, enabling relaxed nighttime breastfeeding.
Materials and Selection Criteria
When choosing a nursing pillow, the following factors should be considered:
- Filling: Common fillings include microbeads (EPS), polyester fibers, or natural materials such as spelt husks. Microbeads adapt flexibly to body contours, while natural fillings offer superior breathability.
- Cover: The cover should be removable and machine-washable. Materials that have been tested for harmful substances, ideally certified under the OEKO-TEX Standard 100, are recommended.
- Shape and size: The choice depends on the preferred breastfeeding position and the body size of the mother.
