However, it is now known that new nerve cells can be formed throughout life, particularly in the hippocampus - a region of the brain that is important for learning, memory and emotions. This process is crucial for cognitive functions, emotional resilience and the brain's ability to adapt to new challenges.
Neurogenesis is influenced by various factors. Physical activity, mental stimulation, a balanced diet and sufficient sleep promote the formation of new nerve cells. At the same time, chronic stress, inflammation, oxidative stress and an unhealthy lifestyle can inhibit neurogenesis and contribute to cognitive decline.
Certain nutrients and bioactive substances also play a key role in supporting neurogenesis.
