Photoplethysmography (PPG)
Photoplethysmography is an optical measurement technique that detects changes in blood volume within superficial veins using light reflection. A small sensor is placed on the skin and records the venous refilling time during defined movement exercises (e.g., toe raises). A shortened refilling time is an indicator of venous insufficiency.
Venous Occlusion Plethysmography
In venous occlusion plethysmography, a pressure cuff is used to temporarily interrupt venous outflow in order to measure the venous capacity and compliance of the venous system. This technique provides information about potential outflow obstructions.
Clinical Tests
In addition to instrumental examinations, simple clinical tests may also be performed, such as the Trendelenburg test (evaluating the valve function of superficial veins) and the Perthes test (checking the patency of the deep venous system).

Risks and Contraindications
The venous circulation test is a safe and low-risk procedure. Ultrasound examinations are non-invasive and radiation-free. There are very few contraindications; the use of an ultrasound probe may be limited in cases of open wounds or skin infections in the examination area. Allergic reactions to ultrasound gel are extremely rare.
